Hamilton Health Center provides adult and children primary medical care and dental services, women’s obstetric and gynecological services, laboratory and radiology services, HIV testing and treatment services, as well as HIV and substance abuse prevention services for women with children, and case management services for pregnant women with children. Hamilton is also the WIC provider for Dauphin County. Services are provided in community locations, as well as school sites, and in a senior high-rise apartment complex. Hamilton employs physicians, physician assistants and nurse practitioners, as well as dentists and hygienists, to deliver the comprehensive array of primary medical and dental services to its patients.
Hamilton’s full-time physicians provide primary care for any adult regardless of insurance status and employs the Chronic Care Model to address prevalent health issues such as diabetes, heart disease and hypertension. Adult services include Internal Medicine, Family Planning (including free pregnancy testing), Podiatry Services and a Surgical Clinic.
Hamilton accepts most forms of insurance including Medical Assistance and Medicare. Uninsured and underinsured patients are interviewed prior to their medical or dental appointment to determine their eligibility for Medical Assistance, CHIP, Hamilton’s discount fee program, as well as other subsidized programs for which they may qualify; such as family planning or discount prescription programs. Hamilton’s full-time interpreters provide services to our patients in several languages and Hamilton provides additional interpreting services through language lines enabling communication in 150 languages.
Hamilton Health Center provides dental services devoted to comprehensive and preventive patient care for the whole family. Our services include but are not limited to exams, cleanings, fillings, sealants, restorations, root canals, crowns, extractions (surgical and simple) as well as full and partial dentures. In 2010 Hamilton’s dental providers saw 6,578 patients for 17,768 visits. That is an average of 2.7 visits per patient. Hamilton expanded the hours of services from 40 hours per week to 58 hours per week in 2009. The expanded hours in addition to the sliding fee scale discounts has significantly expanded the availability of affordable dental care in the Harrisburg Region.

Hamilton is able to provide its uninsured and underinsured patients with low cost medications through its on-site Medicine Shoppe Pharmacy partner. Free medications are also provided through its participation in over 150 on-line patient assistance programs. Additionally, Hamilton is one of 200 medical sites in the country selected to participate in the Direct Relief Program which provides free medications and supplies to uninsured and underinsured populations.
Hamilton’s HOPE (HIV Outreach and Patient Empowerment) Program funded by the Ryan White-Part C federal program provides free HIV/AIDS testing, treatment and support service to high risk low income populations. Hamilton has also partnered with Hershey Medical Center and Pinnacle Health System to provide dental services to their HIV patients.
Hamilton’s youth program STEPP (Student Education and Prevention Program), focuses on providing HIV/AIDS, Sexually Transmitted Infections, drug and alcohol awareness prevention and internet safety education for Dauphin County community agencies and school districts.
Hamilton’s Sister, Friend Program is designed specifically to address the risk factors impacting adult women of color. Sister, Friend uses an evidence-based curriculum held in a “House Party” setting creating safe group environment where self-esteem and friendships can develop. The goal of the program is to educate and empower women to make healthier decisions and reduce their risk of HIV infection and substance abuse.
HHC offers infant, child, adolescent, and adult recommended immunizations. Immunizations help protect against diseases and are one of the most important ways that people can protect themselves and their loved ones against serious diseases. Children birth through 18 years of age may be eligible for free childhood immunizations through the Vaccines For Children Program. This program offers recommended immunizations for children who are on CHIP, have no other insurance, or have no immunization benefits on their health insurance plan. Those with private insurance that fully covers immunization services are not eligible for the Vaccines For Children Program. Please bring your Immunization Record Booklet to every clinic visit to ensure the record is complete and up-to-date.
Hamilton’s laboratory averages 486 blood draws monthly. On a daily basis the average is 22 blood draws.
Hamilton’s full-time pediatricians provide a full range of primary care including well child exams, immunizations and sick care. Hamilton has exceeded Healthy People 2010 Immunization goals for two year olds. Hamilton Health Center also operates school based sites offering medical and dental care, in partnership with the Harrisburg School District.
Hamilton offers podiatry services.
In 2009 the radiology department performed 440 EKGs, 2,096 X-rays, and 972 Hearing tests. This averages to be more than 15 procedures each day.
Hamilton Health Center strives to provide patient-centered healthcare. Our Women’s Health Department addresses women’s health needs from early adolescence to later adulthood, including sexual and reproductive health, contraception, pregnancy, menopause, breast care, annual exams, and gynecological surgical services.
